Good Morning!
Today’s question is about work….how do you define work? What does work mean to you now and what do you see in the days ahead? Work can mean a lot of different things: a career… a profession….a way to make money…responsibility….a way to use talents…a way to make a contribution to the world. It can also bring us many things: structure…colleagues…goals….recognition….achievement…identity…stimulation…comraderie….challenge…stress….frustration.
How about thinking of work in terms of what there is for you to do in this stage of life? Each stage of life has a certain type of work for us to do, lessons to learn….as a student….establishing a career….establishing a life with family/friends/home….being part of a community. What is your focus right now? What is your work related to your family, to your community, to your personal growth?
What changes are on the horizon? Will you retire from some of this work, some of the roles you have taken on, the positions you have been holding? What changes fit the stage you are moving into? What foundations will support the work of your next stage? What is the work that will engage you as you move into your next stage?
Consider what you know about yourself, what you have learned so far. Notice the work you do now and what it gives you. What is there to keep, to let go, to expand? That is your assignment, your homework. Take note of what you find fulfilling now. Build awareness as you go through your day, your week. You can rate segments of your day on a scale of 1-10 in terms of your sense of fulfillment/satisfaction with that activity.
What do you notice, what do you learn?
