Learners Mind

Good Morning and Happy Friday!

Today I want to acknowledge the courage it takes to face what you don’t know. As you may (or may not) know, along with being a coach, I teach adults. There have been several occasions lately where I have found myself reminding my students that our path of learning takes us into what they don’t know. And, I am aware of the courage it can take to admit to not knowing something, and to do something about it, to take some action, to be open to learning.

This is a reminder worth considering. As we live our lives, get along in the world, meet with success, failure, challenge, opportunity, blessings we are always learning. We adjust, cope, and try to make sense of all of this along the way. And, there is always more to learn, another layer of awareness, insight, patterns to recognize as we journey on.

My question today is: How do you deal with what you don’t know? What kind of learner are you? Eager? Curious? Resistant? Something else? Where do you go to do this kind of learning?

Better & better,

Judy

Next Stage Role Model

January 20, 2012

Happy Friday,

The questions today have to do with role models. Where do you look for inspiration; for an example of where you are headed, what is possible? Do you have a path that you keep in mind? Has someone shown you the way your next stage could be?

Consider what you have learned from those around you. We are all influenced by what we see around us. There can be some assumptions made based on what you’ve observed. Those assumptions may or may not be the whole picture; they may not be serving you.

It could be time to ask yourself about the messages, the beliefs you are holding about aging. It can take some reflection to recognize assumptions, as they are usually taken for granted, considered, “just the way it is.” So, you have to ask yourself, “Is that true? Could it be different? Is there another perspective about this?”

This week, challenge yourself, challenge your thinking. Look for role models who are providing examples of living fully, enjoying life, aging gracefully, contributing, connecting, laughing, creating, looking good, learning, making the most of the stage they are in. What is there to learn here? What is there to emulate?

Keep your mind open,

Judy

What's Ahead?

JPLC_4c.jpg

January 13, 2012

Happy Friday,

What is your reaction when you consider what is next for you? Are you excited about the possibilities? Afraid of challenges? Worried about the unknown? Accepting of the inevitable? Grateful for the opportunity to experience what is in store for you? Curious about what’s around the corner?

In the last few months I’ve been talking to women about the stage they are in and what they think, feel and expect in the years ahead. There is a real mixture of thoughts, feelings and expectations. The good news is, whatever perspectives you are holding, the chances are – you are not alone. And, as we know (and continue to write about, talk about, etc) we always have the choice to shift, to learn, to grow, to do things differently, and to start anew.

Today, notice your usual attitude around growing older. Notice the attitudes of those around you. Are there people around you who serve as role models? Can you see yourself aging gracefully, enjoying this next segment of life? What do you hope for?

Stay curious!

Judy

January 6, 2012

Happy Friday,

Today I want to remember that small changes, small steps count a lot. If you have been considering all you want to do, be, accomplish in the year ahead and find a bit of overwhelm creeping in remember that baby steps are part of the journey.

What do baby steps look like? Visualizing…..making a list…10 minutes action steps…..writing down a thought….one phone call….one walk around the block…..one good food choice….one thought consciously chosen….one bit of reading…..one appointment made….one space cleared…

One more thought about this journey to share today has to do with accountability. Consider ways in which you can hold yourself accountable for moving forward. What works for you? What will keep you on the path you want to travel – and enjoying the scenery along the way?

One step at a time,

Judy
