Dear Creators,

It seems that our biggest opportunities for learning come wrapped in our biggest challenges and that usually this package has to do with relationships. We get practice through many kinds of relationships...family, friends, colleagues, neighbors, community. And, when we aren’t engaged in relationships we feel challenged by their lack. There is something for us to experience, to work out, to learn that we can only have in relationships. Notice your thoughts, expectations, emotions….what is there to be with?

As circumstances change there are usually shifts in our relationships. Change can be a good thing…an opportunity for growth…a chance to create something different. Be open; allow good things to come your way.

Mike Dooley in Notes from the Universe says, “The best way to deal with other people...is to just let them be other people. After all that’s how you want them to deal with you.”

It’s about the learning – stay curious,

Congruent Action

February 18, 2011

Dear Creators,

What motivates you to take action? What do you want badly enough? What matters enough? What vision is compelling enough?

In the course of a week I talk to many people about their goals. Even getting to the point of articulating a goal is an action step. Talking about what we want is a step in moving toward it. Saying it out loud to another person puts is “out there.” It can make it more real and be a way to figure out what is next; to consider action steps, to move forward, develop a plan.

It all starts with knowing what you want – and/or – what you don’t want. It all starts inside, with thought, with awareness.

As you consider your actions be aware of the connection of that action with what you want to create. How does it fit? Is it congruent with what you want? What action could you take that would be in harmony with your vision? Think big, think small, think in between….be creative!

Being with quiet times

Dear Creators,

Around here this is a boring time of year. It’s been really cold. We have a lot of snow. Spring is still a ways out there. So, my questions are; what is there to appreciate here? What is there to learn? What is there to be with? What does this season offer?

We have to be with the inconveniences of winter, the many layers of clothes, rushing in and out in the cold wind, dry skin, snow banks, cold cars….

And, this can be a quiet season. It doesn’t have the busyness of the holidays. This is more a time of routines, a time of waiting for spring.

What does this offer? What comes to mind are things like….reflection, noticing small changes, making small changes, working, visualizing/planning, resting, reading.

What are the perfect ways for you to fill these winter days? What will be in harmony with this season, and stimulate your mind, feed your spirit, expand your horizons, be a step on your path?

Changes

Dear Creators,

Sometimes change happens so gradually we hardly notice it, like with seasons, shifting little by little. Today, longing for a sign of spring I did hear the wi-cheer call of a cardinal. Encouraging!

Sometimes change is abrupt. It can turn things upside down, especially if it was unexpected. It can be unsettling, maybe exciting, a chance to learn, to create something new, possibly mixed with some sadness for how things were.

Sometimes change is on the horizon. We know it’s coming though the details can be fuzzy when it seems so far away. This kind of change allows us the opportunity to prepare, plan, consider what we want.

One thing we know for sure is that change will happen. Expected or unexpected, we face new challenges, say good-bye to people, places, adjust to and greet the new and different experiences and people.

There are some life stages we can anticipate. Seeing these transitions ahead of time allows us the time to do some work to prepare and make conscious choices. These are times of opportunity, when we can chart a course, use what we have learned, be smart about what we want to focus on, where to put our energy and resources. Helping people navigate change as they move into the next stage of their life is what I want to focus on as a coach. You may have noticed that the heading of the message is My Next Stage Coach. I am changing my blog and web site to this new name (the web site remains a work in process, but check in when you have a chance). I will continue the weekly messages and I hope you continue to read them.

This week consider your perspective around change. What life stage are you in? What is on your horizon?
